Ch・・teau Lafite Rothschild has got its name from the La Fite family who owned the Pauillac winery in the 16th century, most of the terroir consists of soil made up of fine deep gravel, mixed with aeolian sand on a subsoil of tertiary limestone.

The ch・・teau itself has been registered as a historic monument since November 22, 1989.
